Software developer CV example
By the JobberNest team · Reviewed 3 November 2026
Software CVs are read by two audiences: screening software that looks for the stack in the job advert, and an engineer who wants evidence you have shipped real work. Write for both. List your languages and frameworks plainly, then show what you built and what changed because of it.
Remote employers abroad read many Nigerian CVs. What stands out is clear English, links that work, and results that don't need a local context to understand.
Software developer CV sample
Tobi Bankole
Software Engineer, Backend (Node.js, TypeScript)
Lagos (open to remote) · tobi.bankole@example.com · github.com/example
Profile
Backend engineer with four years building payment and lending APIs in Node.js, TypeScript and PostgreSQL. I care about reliability: I led the move to a queue-based payments flow that cut failed transfers by a third, and I write tests before I ship.
Experience
Software Engineer · A Lagos fintech (lending)
Feb 2023 – present
- Rebuilt the loan repayment service on a queue (BullMQ, Redis); failed repayment attempts fell by 35% and retries became safe to run twice.
- Designed the PostgreSQL schema and API for a new savings product used by 40,000 customers in its first quarter.
- Cut the p95 response time of the customer dashboard API from 1.8 s to 400 ms by adding indexes and removing N+1 queries.
- Review about ten pull requests a week and wrote the team's testing guide.
Junior Developer · A software agency, Yaba
Jul 2021 – Jan 2023
- Built and maintained REST APIs and React admin dashboards for six client projects.
- Set up CI with GitHub Actions so every pull request ran tests and linting.
Education
B.Eng. Computer Engineering · Obafemi Awolowo University
2015 – 2020
Skills
TypeScript · Node.js · NestJS · PostgreSQL · Redis · React · Docker · AWS (EC2, S3, SQS) · GitHub Actions · Jest
Projects
- Open-source contributor to a popular Node.js validation library (3 merged pull requests)
What recruiters look for
- The stack in the advert, written the same way ("Node.js", not "Node").
- Shipped work: what you built, for how many users, and what improved.
- Ownership: designs you led, incidents you fixed, standards you set.
- Links that work: GitHub, portfolio or live projects.
- For remote roles: experience working asynchronously across time zones.
Profile examples
Self-taught frontend developer (React, TypeScript) with two shipped client projects and an open-source portfolio. I write clean, tested components and learn fast from code review.
Backend engineer with four years in fintech: payments, lending and the APIs behind them. Strong on PostgreSQL performance and reliable queue-based systems.
Senior engineer and tech lead for a team of five. I own the architecture of a payments platform processing ₦3bn a month and mentor engineers into senior roles.
Achievement bullets you can adapt
Change the numbers and details to match what you actually did. If you don't have a number, describe the result plainly.

- Built the API for a savings product with 40,000 users in its first quarter.

Tips for a stronger software developer CV
- 1
Skip the skill bars
"JavaScript: 4 out of 5 stars" means nothing to an engineer, and screening software can't read the graphic. List the skills as plain words.
- 2
One line per result
Each bullet should say what you built and what changed. "Worked on the backend" could be anyone.
- 3
Check every link
A broken GitHub link, or a profile full of tutorial forks, hurts more than no link. Pin your two or three best repositories.
- 4
Bootcamp or self-taught? Lead with projects
Put a Projects section above education and describe each project the way you would describe a job.
Questions people ask
Should I put my GitHub on my CV?
Yes, if it shows real work. Pin your best repositories and add a short README to each.
How do I apply for remote jobs abroad from Nigeria?
Say "open to remote" next to your location, show your overlap with their working hours, and apply to companies that hire internationally, often through employer-of-record services.
Should I list every technology I've touched?
No. List what you could use in an interview tomorrow. Anything on your CV is fair game for questions.
