Banks in Nigeria hire in two broad streams: operations (tellers, customer service officers, back office) and sales (relationship and marketing officers). The CV that works for one doesn't always work for the other, so decide which you are applying for before you write.
Operations recruiters look for accuracy, cash handling and compliance. Sales recruiters look for targets met and accounts brought in. The example below is a relationship officer who started in operations, which shows both.

Tips for a stronger banker CV
- 1
Don't name the bank if your contract forbids it
Most people do name their bank. If yours is sensitive, "a tier-one commercial bank" is acceptable and recruiters understand it.
- 2
Show targets as numbers
"Exceeded targets" is on every banking CV. "Met deposit target in 11 of 12 quarters" is on very few.
- 3
Mention compliance without listing rules
One line showing you did KYC and AML properly is worth more than a paragraph about CBN guidelines.
- 4
Graduate trainee? Lead with education
Banks' graduate schemes screen on class of degree and age limits first. Put your degree, class and NYSC status near the top.
Questions people ask
Do Nigerian banks still have age limits for graduate trainees?
Many graduate trainee programmes still set an age limit, often around 26 or 27, and ask for a Second Class Upper. Check each advert; the rules change from year to year.
Is CIBN required to work in a bank?
Not to get in. It helps with promotion, and showing you have started it signals you plan to stay in banking.
Should I list contract or outsourced banking roles?
Yes. Write the agency and the bank, for example "Customer Service Officer (contract via an outsourcing firm) at a tier-one bank".
